This morning (October 25) the Supreme Court of Canada ruled that they will hear the appeal of the case of the three sex workers (Terri Jean Bedford et al) who are fighting three of the anti-prostitution laws in Ontario. This is especially important because it means that sex workers will again get the chance to fight to have the Communicating For The Purposes of Prostitution law struck down. We are thrilled about this as the Communicating law is responsible for the majority of prostitution arrests in Canada and has significant and violent impacts on the lives of street-based sex workers. To understand more about the decision, check out this piece by our friends at Pivot Legal. Also here is some history on the case and a link to the Supreme Court info Congrats to Terri Jean Bedford, Amy Lebovitch and Valerie Scott!
